How to Get Some Sleep on Your Long Haul Flight

Long haul flights are something of a challenge for the best of us – even if we’re used to travelling way outside of the country for the sake of adventure or business. One of the best ways to make the most of a long haul flight is to grab some extra shut-eye. However, if you’re an air travel veteran, then the chances are you already know how difficult it can be to get some genuine rest in your airplane seat.

Fortunately, if you’re looking for a way to get some sleep on your long haul flight, and potentially arrive at your destination looking fresher, and more revitalized then the rest of the passengers, the following tips and tricks could help.

1.    Pick The Right Seat

When you go shopping for a mattress or a set of expensive pillows, you probably take a few moments to think about what kind of a sleeper you are. Choosing the right seat means thinking about some of the same factors before you get on the plane. If you sleep on the right side of the bed at home, then you’ll probably be more comfortable sleeping on the right hand side of the plane. What’s more, window seats can be better to get some sleep on your long haul flight, if you don’t want someone climbing over you every ten minutes to get to the bathroom.

2.    Stop Worrying

First of all, before you can even think about going to sleep, you’re going to want to feel safe and secure on your flight. If you’re travelling alone and you don’t know the people around you, then you don’t want to have to keep a hand over your hand luggage at all times in case someone decides to sneak your credit card out of your wallet while you snooze. Using a RFID-protected money belt that you can strap around your waist and forget about could give you that extra piece of mind you need to doze without concern. Plus, if you twist it around to settle in your lower back, it might also act as extra lumbar support.

3.    Make Sure You’re Wearing Something Comfortable

If you’re planning to get some sleep on your long haul flight, make sure that you choose your traveling outfit accordingly. Tight jeans or a short dress aren’t a good idea – instead, pick easy layer-able clothing that you could happily sleep in. If you’re heading to a business meeting straight after the airport, you can always store a professional piece of attire in your hand luggage – rolled to avoid creases – which you can change into before the clients arrive on the scene.

4.    Neck Support

Finally, if you do manage to get some sleep on your long haul flight, the last thing you want is to wake up with an aching spine and a painful neck because you’ve been dozing awkwardly for the last five hours. Getting through a business meeting when you’re in agony isn’t much fun, and even if you’re heading off on a family vacation, you don’t want to start your trip searching for the aspirin in the bottom of your suitcase.
