5 Great Under-The-Radar Vacation

When you’re looking for somewhere to spend your time away from the office, the world is full of well-trodden paths to explore. In certain portions of the earth, it can feel as though the crowds seem to get larger every year, and when you’re trying to avoid the stress that comes with travel, pushing through teeming throngs of people can be the last thing you want.

Fortunately, if you’re searching for something slightly different – we could have the answer. No matter what corner of the globe you’re drawn towards, we’ve got a range of overlooked vacation spots that are just waiting for you to come and explore them. Sling your passport money belt around your waist and get ready for an adventure.

1.    Anguilla

Surrounded by aquamarine water and lush white sand, this stunning desert island offers a fantastically low-key and underrated escape for people across the world – particularly when you compare it to the chaotic St Martin nearby. There aren’t any ports for nearby cruise ships to pull into, which helps to maintain the relaxed vibe of the island, and since the locals’ value peace and quiet, you can avoid the annoying hum of jet skis too.

2.    Hainan Island

Popular among Russian and Chinese tourists, but often overlooked by other travelers, Hainan Island is one of the best under-the-radar vacation destinations around. It’s located just off the southern coast of China, and plays host to a range of gorgeous beaches, as well as a volcano park, and its own Shaolin Buddhist temple! If you’re looking for peace, quiet, and some incredible scenery, then this is the place for you and your passport money belt.

3.    Koh Lipe

This unique island in Thailand is only available to access by boat, which may be what helps to make it such a secluded spot to visit. Here, you’ll find 25% of the world’s tropical fish species, and plenty of pristine reefs and clear waters to explore. For those in search of a true escape from the pressures of city life, Koh Lipe is like stepping into your own castaway experience (without the need for a rescue team).

4.    Virunga Volcanos

If you like a little excitement in your vacation, but you still want to avoid the crowd, this is one of the best under-the-radar vacation destinations you can try. Located in Rwanda, between the borders of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Virunga Volcanos are eight very active volcanos. If you can scale them (about 15,000 feet), you’ll get some great views across the landscape, complete with sightings of gorillas, elephants, and other fantastic wildlife.

5.    Schonau am Konigsee

Popular for winter sports and health retreats, this town in Germany lies near to the Australian border, and sits just inside of Berchtesgaden National Park, on the scenic Lake Konigsee. Mount Jenner provides skiing for tourists in Winter, while the nearby Mount Watzmann is well-suited to those in search of a hiking challenge. Wherever you go, you’ll find plenty of small-town Bavarian charm and a range of traditional restaurants to satisfy your taste buds.
